Wikileaks documents suggest that LeT established facilitation centre in Sri Lanka. nDocuments of US State Department released by WikiLeaks suggests that Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) has established a facilitation centre in Sri Lanka and was looking at setting up a base of operations in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. According to media reports, secret State Department cable is based on various intelligence inputs received by it. The cable notes that the network of Shafiq Khafa, a Lashkar leader, is “striving to stand up two teams in southern India that rely on the support of LT members based in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Nepal”. Earlier, in response to the assertions made by the Maharashtra police that the the mastermind of the February 13 German Bakery attack, Himayat Baig, was trained to assemble explosives in Colombo, the Sri Lanka government had denied such claims. Sri Lankan Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was quoted by the state run Sunday Observer in Sept 2010 as saying that ‘There is no truth whatsoever. The allegations are totally misleading and incorrect.’ He said Sri Lanka will never leave room for terrorism and would not allow any foreign militant group to operate on local soil. ‘We will never let that happen and would always support the battle against global terrorism,’ Gotabhaya said.
