The Government says wholesale sugar prices have dropped in the past two to three days. Talking to reporters at the sidelines of a function, Food and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said that retail prices of sugar are also expected to fall in 10-15 days. He said that Food Corporation of India has been asked to sell wheat and rice in open market to check the prices.<br/><br/>The government last week had announced a slew of measures such as duty-free sugar imports and enhanced allocation of rice and wheat to check prices. Indian inflation jumped to a one-year high of 7.3 percent in December, driven by high food prices.
