The White House has applauded Chinese President Hu Jintao's remarks in which he acknowledged that a lot needs to be done in his country on human rights issue. Hu made those remarks at a joint news conference with US President Barack Obama at the White House on Wednesday in response to a question from an American journalist. He said, his government will continue its efforts to improve the lives of the Chinese people and to promote democracy and the rule of law in the country.Welcoming Hu's remarks, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said the Chinese leader eventually gave a “frank admission” about the need to improve human rights in China. At the same time he noted that the United States would watch the actions of China in this regard. Gibbs also welcomed the development in the Korean peninsula after Obama-Hu talks on Wednesday.South Korea and North Korea have agreed to talk on military matters.
