The latest data received from the states shows that the wheat and pulses have been sown in more area in this rabi season than last year. Pulses had been sown in one hundred and eleven point ninety lakh hectors of land till the 10th of this year which is 2.51 lakh hectares more than previous year in the same period. The highest area where pulses have been sown is Madhya Pradesh, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. Our correspondent says that because of the huge gap between demand and supply, the prices of pulses have sky-rocketed. High prices of pulses in the international market have affected the import despite zero duty on the pulses and the production of pulses is four million tones short of demand. 217 point lakh hectares of land has come under wheat cultivation this season which is 1.26 lakh hectors more than last year. However, the area cultivated for oil seeds is 6.03 lakh hectors less than last year.<br/>
