Wheat procurement reaches all-time high of 29.22 million tonnes in current marketing yr

Wheat procurement in the country has reached an all-time high of 29.22 million tonnes so far in the current marketing year.

According to data compiled by the Food Corporation of India wheat procurement till Monday was up by over 24 per cent at a record 29.22 million tonnes in the 2012-13 marketing year against 23.49 million tonnes in the same period a year ago.

Wheat production in India, the world's second largest producer, is estimated at a record 90.23 million tonnes in the 2011-12 crop year (July-June) as against 86.87 million tonnes in the previous year.
