The West Bengal Government has urged the centre to increase the minimum support price of Jute. Speaking to newsmen the State Chief Minister Miss Mamata Banerjee told newsmen in Kolkata this evening that she had spoken with the Union Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukjerjee on the issue over telephone to redress the sufferings of Jute growers. Miss Banerjee said that the Jute growers get minimum support price of One thousand Seven hundred rupees per quintal which is very inadequate in the present market situation. Earlier, Miss Banerjee took up the issue with the Union Agricultural Minister Mr. Sharod Pawer to give bonus of 400 rupees per quintal to the Jute growers to deal with the situation but it was later turned down.
