US President Barack Obama and the leaders of Germany and France have pledged to consider new steps to punish Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad over indiscriminate attacks on civilians. Mr. Obama spoke separately to French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel as the western nations put pressure on Assad, on a day when another 14 people were killed in protests during Ramadan in Syria. A White House statement said the leaders condemned the Assad regime for continued use of indiscriminate violence against the Syrian people. UN Security Council condemned the Syria's actions and agreed to consider additional steps to pressure the Assad regime and support the Syrian people.
