West Indies fail to qualify, Bangladesh seal place in 2017 Champions Trophy

West Indies have failed to qualify for the 2017 Champions Trophy in England, while Bangladesh will play the tournament for the first time since 2006.Pakistan pipped the West Indies to the eighth position in ICC's one-day rankings at the 30th September cut-off.Only the top eight teams on the date will compete in the tournament. It will be the first time since the tournament's inception in 1998 that assortment of Caribbean nations will not be a part of a premier event. Bangladesh, which had ensured their place by beating South Africa in July, was seventh in the rankings.World champions Australia were at the top, with defending champions of the tournament, India second. South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and England will also participate in the tournament.The Champions Trophy will be a 15-match tournament, with the top two teams of the two group progressing to the semi-finals. The groups and the schedule for the tournament is yet to be announced.
