West Bengal: Several initiatives taken to encourage physically challenged voters to exercise their franchise in last few years

The Chief Electoral Office in West Bengal has taken up initiatives during the last few years to encourage physically challenged voters to exercise their franchise. Apart from ramps, wheel chairs, Braille EVMs and assistance for the hearing impaired and blind at the polling stations, the Election offices in the state took up measures to enroll such voters. One such initiative was the introduction of the Anubhav mobile app that helped people with disabilities to register as voters. Another option is to call up the 1950 helpline to get help in enrolling.
''
''The state also has Electoral Literacy clubs which have conducted enrollment drives for voters with disabilities. A web tutorial was also launched to assist the physically challenged to enroll into the electorate by introducing audio keyboards into the system. Such voters with disabilities now have the option to cast their vote at home if they have all the relevant documents.
