The West Bengal Government presented Banga Vibhushan Award to the nine distinguish persons in the field of performing arts, cinema, and sports at a function in Kolkata on Monday evening. The State Governor Mr.M. K.Narayanan conferred the award in presence of State Chief Minister Ms.Mamata Banerjee to the noted dancer Amala Shankar, Sarod Maesero, Amjad Ali Khan, singer Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, Pijen Mukhopadhayay actress Supriya Devi, actor Haradhan Bandhopadhyay, Footballer Sailen Manna and writer Maheswata Devi. Noted Singer Manna De received the award in absentia.Speaking on the occasion, the State Governor M.K.Narayanan praised the Chief Minister for instituting such awards and said that the Chief Minister is not only bringing 'parivartan' in politics but in other fields also. Chief Minister, Ms. Banerjee said that the people of the Sate are proud by honouring these legendary figures.
