The West Bengal Government has decided to set up a development council for Lepchas in the Darjeeling hills. A delegation of the Lepchas met the State Chief Minister Miss Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata today and submitted a memorandum to her.The Lepchas withdrew their 26th day long dharna in Kolkata and Darjeeling after State Government’s announcement. The State Chief Secretary Mr. Samar Ghosh said that the notification for setting up the council will be issued soon.The Lepcha Community has demanded reservation of seats in the State Assembly and in the Parliament besides introduction of Lepcha language in the educational curricula.
