<span style="color: #222222;">The Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has asked the central government today to ensure a fair, transparent and credible vaccination policy to enable the people of the country to get vaccines urgently at affordable prices. In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ms Banerjee said that the announcement made last evening did not address major issues like ensuring quality, efficacy, stable flow of supply of required number of doses by the manufacturers and the price at which the vaccines are to be purchased by the states. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">She has also expressed her concern that the policy might lead to unscrupulous mechanisms in the market, including pricing of vaccines as it appears to be based on market prices which may put the common people under huge financial burden. CM Banerjee also stated that the required vaccines are not currently available in the market and requested the PM for steps to ensure their availability at the earliest. She also criticised the Centre's new vaccine policy by terming it hollow, without substance and a regrettable show of evasion of responsibility at a time of crisis.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Ms Banerjee also mentioned that in her earlier letter dated 24th February, the government of West bengal had requested PM's intervention to allow them to purchase vaccines directly with state resources and give free vaccination to its people.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Meanwhile, the young people of West Bengal have welcomed the decision of the Union government of allowing vaccination for anyone above 18 years. Sujata Ghorui, a freelancer told AIR News that the decision will help the young generation to fight against the pandemic.</span><br />
