West Bengal boat mishap kills 18 people

In West Bengal, 18 bodies have so far been recovered in trawler capsized on Murignaga river in East Midnapur district today. State Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh told newsmen in Kolkata this evening that 50 passengers of the ill fated trawler have been rescued. But the number of missing persons was difficult to calculate as it is not known, how many passers were boarded on the trawler. Air Kolkata correspondent Arijit Chakrawarti reports that Navy and Coast Guard have been now called for rescue and search operation. Besides both the civil and defence have already been pressed into service for rescue work. The ill fated trawler was going to Sagar Island in South 24 Pargana district frm Khejuri in East Midnapur and capsized near Ghoramara Island.
