West Bengal Assembly adopts Land Reforms Amendment Bill 2012

The West Bengal Assembly has adopted the Land Reforms Amendment Bill 2012 with an aim for rapid industrialization in the state. Replying to the Bill the State Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr. Partha Chatterjee categorically said that, the Government will not forcefully acquire any land for industries.Mr. Chatterjee informed the House, there is enough land for industries in the state and a Ministerial Committee headed by the Chief Minister Miss Mamata Banerjee will be set up to monitor the proper use of land taken for industries.Criticizing the move, the Opposition leader Dr. Sujyakanta Mishra demanded the Bill should be referred to the select committee of the House to give further thought on it. Later the Bill was passed by votes in which 156 members were voted in favour of it while 46 were against of it.
