Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has urged the Indian media to play a positive role in promoting friendship between New Delhi and Beijing. Talking to a group of senior journalists and scholars in New Delhi today, Wen Jiabao said that negative approach of the media is causing damage to the bilateral ties. Citing the media coverage of the situation on India-China border, the Chinese Premier asserted that not a single shot had been fired nor had there been any exchanges in the border areas between the troops. He said, the boundary question still has repeatedly been sensationalized by the media and after that the leaders of the two countries had to repair the damage. He advised the media to understand its important role in promoting the friendship and stressed the need that the two countries must live as good neighbours. Answering questions, the Chinese Premier said, it is undeniable that the long history between the two countries there was a page of twists and turns and it is high time that the two countries turned over the page as the two are inclusive and diverse societies. He said that the two Asian giants are partners in cooperation and not rivals. He noted that greater people to people contact and cultural exchanges can play an important role in strengthening the cooperation between the two countries. Our correspondent reports that Chinese Prime Minister had a hectic schedule during his stay in New Delhi and he held a series of meetings with top Indian leaders to take the strategic partnership to a higher level. In his delegation level talks with the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh a host of issues came up for discussion. In their free and candid discussions, the two leaders had exchange of views on issues like terrorism originating from the soil under Pakistani control and staple visa issue. The boundary question also came up for discussion at the high table besides the growing concern among the Indian industrialists on the growing trade deficit. On its part Chinese premier attempted to address the concerns of Indian industry on the growing trade deficit and pledged to work towards opening their market for Indian Pharma, IT and Agro products. New Delhi asserted that the divergence of views on some major issues needs to be narrowed down and the two countries have to be sensitive to each others core concerns. China may not have qualified its support to India in its quest to become the member of the UN Security Council. The very fact that three Permanent Members of UNSC visited the country in the last one month and the visit of Russian President on the cards, speaks volumes about India's growing emergence at the global stage.
