Welcome people's mandate in Assembly polls and will learn from defeat: PM

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has said any wrong doing in government decisions will be punished through due process of law. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi this morning, Dr Singh said there is much public concern on high profile allegations of corruption notably in regard to 2G spectrum and coal blocks allocation and cases related to land. Dr Singh said the government has taken major steps to change the existing procedure for allocation of spectrum and coal by shifting auction so that these problems do not arise in the future.

The Prime Minister added that land issues are in the domain of State governments and Centre is consistently advising the State governments to ensure transparency in these cases.

Dr Singh said the Congress welcomes the people's mandate in the just concluded Assembly elections and will learn lessons from its defeat. Regarding Prime Ministerial candidate, he said the party will announce the name of the candidate at an appropriate time. Responding to a question, he said Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has outstanding credentials for the post of Prime Minister.
