Week long pulse polio Immunisation drive begins in UP

In Uttar Pradesh week long pulse polio Immunisation drive begins today in all the 72 districts of the state under National Immunisation Day.

Dr. Ramji lal, Director General Health of the state told our Lucknow Correspondent that about 4 crore children upto five years of age will be administered polio drops during the drive.

He said that about one lakh Immunisation booths are set up across the state to administer polio drops. Several mobile and transit teams have been deployed at railway and bus stations, apartments in urban areas and slum dwellers for Immunisation to the children in journey and for the children living at scattered places.

During the drive nearly one lakh 50 thousand teams of health workers, Anganwadi workers and ASHA workers will be visiting door to door from tomorrow to administer polio drops to the children's who would not have visited Immunisation booths.

AIR correspondent reports that not a single case of polio infections has come to the notice this year in the state.

The centre has heightened surveillance in bordering States like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Bihar in view of detection of 4 cases of polio in China after a gap of ten years.

The Health Ministry has put on high alert these states asking them to put up polio booths. States have been asked to compulsorily administer polio drops to all children entering the country from any of the neighboring countries.
