Week-long pulse polio immunisation drive begins in UP

The week-long pulse polio immunisation drive begins today in all 72 districts of Uttar Pradesh. More than 3 crore children upto five years of age will be administered polio drops during the drive. About one lakh Immunisation booths have been set up across the state to administer the polio drops. Several mobile and transit teams have been deployed at railway and bus stations, apartments in urban areas and slum dwellers for the purpose. AIR Lucknow Correspondent reports that 66 blocks in 11 districts of western and Terai region have been identifies as sensitive and special measures are being taken in these blocks during the immunisation drive. 10 cases of polio infection had come in the light during last year from 7 western districts including Etah, Ghaziabad, Ferozabad, Muzaffarnagar, Badaun, Baghpat and Mathura. Special attention is being given to the districts from where Polio infection cases had been detected.
