Asian stocks fell from two-week highs, today, after companies reported declining earnings and as lower metal prices dragged down mining companies. So Japan's Nikkei Stock Average edged up 0.3 percent, to its highest close in two weeks. But Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 0.5 percent; South Korea's KOSPI shed 0.4 percent; and Singapore's Straits Times index lost 0.9 percent. The stock market in China remained closed for a holiday. But European stocks rose. So key benchmark indices in the UK, France and Germany were up about 0.5% in intra-day trade, today.
