RBI Governor Dr. Raghuram Rajan has said that we need to bring down costs of rural banking to achieve financial inclusion. He said that the cost of establishing a bank branch in a village is still economically unviable because of which it is not possible to establish branches in remote areas. In an exclusive interview to All India Radio, he also emphasised the need to harness the potential of technological innovation to cater to the financial needs of the rural population. On the foreign exchange scenario, the Governor said that the Reserve Bank of India does not have a target for the rupee against the dollar and would let the market forces decide the correct value of the Indian currency.
