WC T20: NZ beat SL, WI defeat Ireland

New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by two wickets in the inaugural Twenty20 cricket World Cup match in Guyana on Friday night. Chasing a target of 136 runs the Kivis made 139 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 19.5 overs. J Riders scored 42 runs in 27 balls while N McCullum made 16 in just 6 balls. For Sri Lanka Murlidharan took two wickets. In another match on the same venue, hosts West Indies defeated Ireland by 70 runs. India takes on Afghansitan in St. Lucia today and South Africa tomorrow. All India Radio will broadcast live commentary on the matches. It will be available on FM Gold alternately in Hindi and English from 6.30 PM. Twelve teams are participating in the 17 day long tournament.
