WC 2011: Lanka beats Kiwis and Ireland thrashes Netherlands

In the ICC Cricket World Cup matches played yesterday, Sri Lanka defeated New Zealand, while Ireland beat the Netherlands. In the Day-Night Group 'A' encounter at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Sri Lanka recorded a thumping 112-run win over New Zealand. Electing to bat, Sri Lanka made 265 for 9 in the allotted 50 overs. Skipper Kumar Sangakkara struck his maiden World Cup century by hitting 111. The Kiwis were all out for 153 in 35 overs. Both the teams had already qualified for the quarter-finals. Sri Lanka have nine points and the Kiwis eight. In the Day fixture at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Ireland beat the Netherlands by six wickets. Ireland achieved victory target of 307 in 47.4 overs. Ireland finished their league encounters with four points, while the Netherlands ended their campaign failing to win any of the matches.
