Even with a defeat, the US progressed into the knock-out stage as they had a better goal difference than Portugal, who defeated Ghana, 2-1 in the other Group-G match. After an own goal from defender John Boye, Ghana equalised through Asamoah Gyan in the second half. Portugal's star forward Cristiano Ronaldo sealed a victory for Portugal by scoring his first goal of this World Cup. But, they failed to make it to the next round.Meanwhile, Algeria became the second team from Group-H to book a Round of 16 berth, after they drew with Russia, 1-1. They finished the group stage with 4 points. The already qualified Belgium, which defeated Korea Republic, 1-0, ended the group at the top of the table with 9 points.With these results, the group stage of this World Cup has come to an end. The Round of 16 will begin from tomorrow. Brazil will take on Chile at 9:30 PM Indian Time, while Uruguay will clash with Colombia at 1:30 AM.Uruguay forward Luis Suarez has been handed a nine match international suspension and a ban from all football activity for four months for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini. This means that Suarez will miss the remainder of the World Cup, and also the start of the domestic season. Uruguay said there was not enough evidence for such a decision, and they will appeal against it. The suspension is the longest in World Cup history for an on-field incident. Suarez had been punished twice before for biting players while playing for club teams.
