WB urges centre to institute int literature award named after Tagore

The West Bengal Government has urged the Centre to institute an international literature award named after Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. In a meeting to observe the 150th Birth Anniversary of the Poet in New Delhi on Thursday which was chaired by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, the West Bengal Minister of State for Information and Culture. Dr. Soumendranath Bera made this request. Dr. Bera also requested that steps be taken to translate the works of the Nobel Laureate into different languages of the country. Apart from these, preservation of Jorasanko Thakurbari, the birthplace of Rabindranath and maintenance of Nimtala crematorium were the poet was cremated, came up for discussion. Later, another meeting was held to discuss the celebrations of the 150th birthday of Swami Vivekananda was also held. <br/>
