WB urges Centre to extend time limit for digitalizing TV broadcast

The West Bengal Government has urged the Centre to extend the time limit for digitalizing television broadcast in the state. The state Urban Development Minister Mr. Firhad Hakim has written a letter to the Information and Broadcasting Minister Mrs. Ambika Soni to this effect today. In his letter to the Information and Broadcasting Minister Mr. Hakim also requested the Centre to continue with present analog telecasting system along with digital broadcast for the time being. After meeting with cable operators and Multi Services Operators (MSO) in Kolkata, Mr. Hakim told newsmen this evening that digitalization job will not be completed by this month as the festive season in the state and there are not enough stock of set-top boxes also. Earlier the Centre extended the time limit for completion of digitalization job till 31st of this month following request from the state government.
