WB sets up 5 member committee to regulate auto-rickshaws

The West Bengal government has set up a five member committee to regulate auto-rickshaws in the city and suburbs.After a meeting with various trade unions and auto operators, State Transport Minister Madan Mitra said that the committee has been asked to submit its report within seven days.Mr. Mitra also announced a ban on purchase of new auto-rickshaws till further orders. He said that the government will act tough if any dealer try to sell auto-rickshaws violating the government's decision. The Minister however, ruled out hike in the existing passenger fare and restricted the number of passengers at four.
