In West Bengal peaceful voting is on in 9 parliamentary seats covering four South Bengal Districts of Burdwan, Birbhum, Howrah and Hooghly.
The Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta told AIR that around 62 percent polling was recorded up to 1 pm.
He said barring a few stray incidents, no major untoward incident has been reported so far and polling is going on smoothly Few Electronic Voting Machines were replaced due to technical snags.
Our correspondent reports that voting is being held amidst tight security. Unprecedented security arrangements are in place in politically sensitive region of Hooghly and Birbhum districts. Polling at sensitive booths is being monitored through Webcasting.
