WB proposes to increase its lending to India to $ 7 billion

The World Bank has proposed to increase its lending to India to about 7 billion dollars this fiscal. According to a Finance Ministry statement this is three times more than an average 2.3 billion dollar in the previous four years. World Bank President Robert Zoellick met Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi this morning said that India has sought early completion of quota reforms at the World Bank to increase the representation of developing countries. In September, the World Bank had approved 4.3 billion dollars in loans for India to help finance infrastructure building and to shore up the capital of some state-run banks as the economy recovers from the global financial crisis. The loans are part of the bank's 14 billion dollar lending for Asia's third-largest economy over three years through 2012.
