The West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee will hold a meeting of Panchayat Samity on the 20th of next month to give more power to the Panchayats and to ensure 50 per cent participation of women in Panchayats. The meeting also aims at ensuring participation of the common-man in the UPA’s programme for the ‘Aam admi’. This was stated by the Pradesh Congress President and Rajya Sabha member Pradip Bhattacharya at a news conference in Kolkata today. Mr. Bhattacharya said that, only political gain is not the sole aim of the meeting. He said that, strengthening Panchayat institutions at the grass-roots level is the main aim of the meeting.
