WB polls: Nomination papers of 351 candidates found valid for 5th phase

In West Bengal, nomination papers filed by 351 candidates have been found valid during the scrutiny held for the 5th phase polling. In this phase, 53 assembly seats in the state will go for polls on 30th April. Tomorrow is the last day for withdrawal. Election Commission sources informed AIR that 221 nominations for 31 seats in Dakshin 24-Parganas seats, 37 filed for the 4 Dakshin Kolkata seats and 93 submitted for 18 constituencies in Hooghly district were cleared. Meanwhile, filing of nomination papers for the sixth and last phase is on till 18th April. The scrutiny will be done the next day and withdrawal will be allowed till 21st April. 25 Assembly seats spread in Purba Medinipur and Coochbehar districts will go for polling on 5th May. The elections to the 294-seat West Bengal Assembly are being conducted in six voting phases, spread across seven polling days. The voting in the state will conclude on 5th May and the counting of all the constituencies will be held on 19th May.
