In poll-bound West Bengal, today is the last day for filing nomination papers for the sixth phase of assembly elections. The scrutiny will be done tomorrow and withdrawal will be allowed till Thursday. 25 Assembly seats spread in Purba Medinipur and Coochbehar districts will go for polling on 5th May under this phase, the last round of current elections voting. On the other hand, directed by the Election Commission, the district authorities in Birbhum last evening filed two separate FIRs against the district chief of TMC for violating the Commissions directive restricting his movements during yesterday's polling and displaying party symbol on his person while casting his vote.<br/>Elections to the 294-seat West Bengal Assembly are being conducted in six voting-phases, spread across seven polling days. Counting of all the constituencies will be held on 19th May. Election Commission sources have informed AIR that nomination papers filed by 351 candidates have been found valid during the scrutiny held for the 5th phase polling. In this phase, 53 assembly seats in the state will go for polls on 30th April.<br/>Meanwhile, campaigning for the third and fourth phases of polling in Howrah, Kolkata, Rajarhat-New Town areas and districts is on amid heat wave conditions under a scorching Sun blazing 39'C to 43'C today. Braving the singe, among others, BJP candidate in Howrah Uttar, actor and state Mahila Morcha chief, Rupa Ganguly and her Left supported Congress opponent, Santosh Pathak went door-to-door canvassing. Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is to attend three party rallies today.
