WB : Motion in state Assembly to revive legislative council

In West Bengal, a motion will be placed in the state Assembly this afternoon for the revival of Legislative Council. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Partha Chatterjee told in Kolkata that the official motion will be moved before the House to revive the Legislative Council. Our Kolkata reports that the Council was abolished in 1969 during the regime of United Front Government. If the motion is adopted in the state Assembly it has to be passed by both Houses of Parliament. After this, a Bill will formed for reconstitution of Legislative Council. Meanwhile, the opposition Left Front and SUCI have criticized the Mamata Banerjee led Government for the move and termed it as undemocratic and financial burden for state Exchequer. The Trinamool Congress Chief, Miss Mamata Banerjee gave an election promise that the Council will be restored if her party voted to power.
