The West Bengal Labour Minister Mr. Anadi Kumar Sahu has written to the Central Government requesting for its intervention in the strike by Beedi producers in the State. Beedi manufactures are protesting against the Centre’s recent order of stipulating pictorial depiction of the skull and cross bone on labels of beedi packets as part of statutory health warning.The letter says, 20 lakh workers in the State are engage in beedi production, and suspension of production will mean loss of employment for large number of workers.
