WB hooch tragedy claims 148 lives; Govt orders CID probe

The death toll in West Bengal hooch tragedy has mounted to 148. The State government has ordered a CID probe in Wednesday's liquor tragedy in south 24 Paraganas district. The CID team has visited the mishap site.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that ten persons have been arrested in connection with the incident so far. But the owner of the liquor Den named in the FIR is still absconding.

AIR correspondent reports that the state government has called an all party meeting on 19th of this month to find out ways and means against the menace of illicit liquor. It had already announced 2 lakh rupees compensation to the next of kin of the victims.

Minister of state for Information and Broadcasting C.M Jatua visited the hospitals to see the patients.
