The West Bengal government will felicitate 36 people who had risked their lives while trying to rescue people from the devastating fire at AMRI Hospital in Kolkata. This was disclosed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee yesterday. Ms. Banerjee said, she said will attend a memorial function today in front of the fire-ravaged building in south Kolkata's Dhakuria.
Trinamool Congress has cancelled its today's rally in Kolkata organised to mark the completion of 200 days of the Mamata Banerjee-led government in the state.
The mortal remains of two nurses, PK Vineetha and Remya Rajappan, who lost their lives in the fire mishap, arrived in Kochi, Kerala last night. Union Minister Vayalar Ravi and Chief Minister Ommen Chandy were among those who paid homage to the victims at the airport. Mr Chandy said, the two nurses, who saved seven people before fire claimed their lives, will be laid to rest today with full state honours at their native places in Kottayam district.
Meanwhile, death toll in Friday's Kolkata fire has risen to 93 with two more persons succumbing to their injuries yesterday. They include a West Bengal police constable and a female patient.
Forensic experts could not collect evidence at the AMRI Hospital yesterday as the basement where the fire started is still under several feet of water. They are expected to visit the hospital once again today to carry out their investigations.
