In West Bengal, the State Government is planning to introduce a separate scheme for 100 days of work for poor people in the State. Announcing this at the Panchayati Raj convention organised by the Trinamool Congress in Kolkata today, Chief Minister, Miss Mamata Banerjee said that this will be in addition to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. Miss Banerjee said that her Government is trying to make payments to the workers on the spot under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. She said that the Government will set up 350 cold storages and Kishan Mandis in each block of the state. Refuting opposition charges on farmers’ suicide, the Chief Minister said that those who have died are not actually farmers. Miss Banerjee said that the State Government has ensured crop insurance for the welfare of distressed farmers.
