WB govt to form Highway Development Corporation

The West Bengal Government has decided to form a Highway Development Corporation with a view to improve road infrastructure, repair and maintain and make new roads. This decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet presided over by the Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata this evening.The new corporation will start its work with an initial capital of Rs 50 crore.A programme named Golden Road project, on the lines of the Centre’s Golden Quadrilateral will be launched to connect and join the highways and projects to construct new roads will also be taken up. Besides this, the East-West Metro rail project would be handed over to the railways for implementation as decided by the state Cabinet.
