WB Govt promulgates ordinance to return Singur land to farmers

The West Bengal Government has promulgated an ordinance to return 400 acres of land to the unwilling farmers of Singur. State Governor, M.K. Narayanan has given his assent on the ordinance yesterday. Giving this information in Kolkata on Thursday evening, State Chief Minister, Mamta Banerjee said that the government has resumed the acquired around 1,000 acres of land at Singur which was leased out to Tata Motors for setting up car factory at Singur. Ms. Banerjee said that 400 acres of land will be returned to the unwilling farmers while remaining 600 acres of land will be kept for industry. The Chief Minister said Tata Group can set up industry on 600 acres of land or they can take compensation if demanded. Ms. Banerjee said, the nitty-gritty of the returning land to the unwilling farmers will be finalised by the local peoples' representatives.
