The West Bengal Government has decided to simplify taxes and increase the collection of taxes without increasing any burden on the common man, through rationalization of taxes. This was informed to the State Assembly by the State Finance Minister Dr. Amit Mitra while presenting the State finance bill for the year. Participating in the discussion on the finance bill Dr. Mitra said that, the revenue system of the State is being rearranged in this bill. He said, no new taxes have been proposed on the common man, who is already over burdened by high prices of essential commodities. No new taxes have been levied on the tax-free items. Taxes have been kept unaltered on services like IT, health and implements used in agriculture where up to 4% of sales tax already prevails. There is a proposal to increase taxes on tobacco related products and foreign related products.
