The West Bengal Government has decided to construct 8 lakh 30 thousand houses under Bangla Abas Yojana for the people belonging to economically weaker sections during the current financial year.<br />'' <br />'' The Rural Development Department is implementing the project for permanent dwelling houses as per the Socio-Economic Census of 2011 carried out by the Centre.<br />'' <br />'' Under the scheme, the Rural Development Department has constructed more than 14 lakh houses at different places in the last three years. Over 17 thousand crore rupees have been spent for this purpose so far.<br />'' <br />'' As per the Socio-Economic Census, 38 lakhs houses will be built under the scheme for eligible beneficiaries. One lakh 30 thousand rupees is being given for each house in backward areas of West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura and Purulia districts of the State while other districts are being given one lakh 20 thousand rupees for each house.<br />'' <br />'' The centre is giving 60 per cent of the fund while the State Government is bearing the rest of the expenditure for implementation of the project. The scheme has changed the living standard of people of economically weaker sections in Rural Bengal.<br />'' <br />'' As the Houses are having own toilet facilities, this is also helping to maintain cleanliness, hygiene besides checking open defecation. <br />
