WB govt. announces 50% reservation for women in Gram Panchayets

The West Bengal Government has announced 50 percent reservation of seats for women in Gram Panchayat. Announcing this, at Nandigram in East Midnapur District today the Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee said that, this will be implemented in the next Panchayat Elections in the State schedule to be held in next year. Ms. Banerjee also announced launching of ‘Krishi Ratna’ award for the farmers on the occasion of celebrations of Farmers day in the State today. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of couple of projects at Nandigram paying respect to the 14 farmers, who were killed in police firing during a save ‘farm land` movement on this day in 2006.
