Culling of birds suspected to be infected with N1 H1 virus with commonly known as bird flu has started in the Tehotta area of Nadia district of West Bengal. So far 13000 birds have been culled. State Animal Husbandy Minister, Noor-e-Alam Chaudhary has said that a total of 51000 birds will be culled. He said that the state government will compensate bird owners and farmers by giving them baby chicken and ducklings along with financial help. 20 rupees will be given for small bird and 50 rupees will be paid for each fully grown up bird. A team of 420 Animal Husbandry workers are involved in the culling. The culling will go on for 3 days. Panchayat level officials along with state level officials are overseeing the culling of birds.
