The West Bengal Chief Minister Mr. Buddhadev Bhattacharjee has strongly opposed the oppositions demand for withdrawal of central force from naxal-infested Jungle Mahal area. Replying to a question in the state Assembly today Mr. Bhattacharjee said that such demand will only encourage spreading of Maoist activities in other parts of the state. The Chief Minister said that opposition Trinamul Congress has linked to the Maoist backed People Committee against police atrocities spearheading violent activities in the Jungal Mahal. Replying to the achievement of the joint force Mr. Bhattacharjee informed the house that after its deployment in Jangal Mahal Maoist activities in West Mednipur, Bankura and Purulia districts have been contained. Security forces achieved major success in 2/3 offensives against Maoists. The Chief Minister’s comment came a day after Trinamul Congress Chief and Railway Minister Miss Mamata Banerjee’s demand immediate withdrawal of central force from Jangal Mahal.Miss Banerjee alleged that the ruling CPIM workers have unleashed reign of terror in the rural areas in the name of joint operations to tackle Maoists. Later protesting the Chief Minister’s comment the Trinamul Congress members staged a walk-out from the house.
