The West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today asserted that all armed groups in the State will be disarmed. Talking to reporters in New Delhi this afternoon, he said 28 police stations were affected by the Maoists violence and now the situation is gradually returning to normal. Mr Bhattacharjee alleged that some Maoists are being openly backed by Trinamool Congress and he has informed the Home Minister about the same. Earlier, Mr Bhattacharjee met the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and exchanged views with him on the prevailing situation in West Bengal. The Chief Minister had a 45 minute long meeting with Home Minister P Chidambaram also. The meeting took stock of the situation in the back drop of political killings in the State. The Home Minister and the State Chief Minister have exchanged a number of letters on the issue. Mr.Bhattacharjee was invited by Mr.Chidambaram to visit Delhi nearly a month ago for discussion. This followed repeated demands of UPA ally Trinamool Congress that the Centre must intervene to stop the violence in West Bengal. AIR correspondent reports that during the meeting, Bhattacharjee is understood to have explained the situation in violence-hit areas to the Home Minister and the steps being taken by the state government.
