The World Bank has approved an assistance package of 43 million US dollars for the implementation of the Modernization of Rani Jamara Kulariya Irrigation Scheme in Kailali district of Western Nepal. According to the World Bank, the scheme is one of the most prominent Farmer Managed Irrigation Schemes in Nepal. It constitutes three independent, traditional irrigation systems constructed, operated, and managed by generations of farmers, mainly from the indigenous Tharu community. About 25000 farming households are expected to benefit from the project .
