The West Bengal Government has announced reservation of 50 percent seats in Panchayats for Women. <br/><br/>Making a statement in the State Assembly today, the Panchayats and Rural Development Minister, Mr. Anisur Rahman said that the Government feels that one third reservation for women in Panchayats is not adequate and women should have greater opportunity to participate in the development process in rural areas of the State. <br/><br/>Mr. Rahman informed the house that the decision will be implemented before Panchayats elections in the state in 2013 after making suitable amendments in related acts.<br/>
