WB adopts resolution not to evict hawkers without paying adequate compensation

The West Bengal Government has in principal adopted a resolution not to evict hawkers without paying adequate compensation. However illegal hawking or constructing illegal shops is not going to be tolerated by the State Government. This was stated by the State PWD and Urban Development Minister Mr. Firhad Hakim, after a meeting with the Hawkers’ Sangram Samity at the Writers’ Building in Kolkata today. He said that the Hawker Sangram Samity has been told to prepare a blue-print for permanent stalls for hawkers in the State.Mr. Firhad Hakim also said that the state government is considering to bring in a new law to reign in illegal hawkers. The minister also said that all municipalities and corporations have been told to implement the Central Government’s directive in this regard.
