Water supply in Delhi will be fully restored by tomorrow morning. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, the CEO of Delhi Jal Board, Mr Ramesh Negi said that the supply of raw water from the Murad Nagar regulator in Uttar Pradesh has resumed.

However, it will take 6 hours for the water to reach the Capital and then another 2 hours for the water treatment plants to become operational. He said that the Underground Reservoirs will be filled up in the night and normal water supply will be resumed in the morning.

Citing better democratic ways of protest, Mr Negi said that Delhi should not be made a bargaining ground for such protests. He informed that 33 to 35 percent water supply in the Capital had been affected by the protests. Replying to a question on emergency back-ups, he said that water can be drawn from the Wazirabad pond in extreme situation and then water will have to be rationed judiciously across the Capital. He however added that no such situation is likely to arise.

Earlier, members of Akhil Bharatiya Jat Reservation Sangharsh Samiti, demanding reservation in government jobs under OBC category status, had disrupted the water supply from the Muradnagar regulator.
