In Punjab, water level of Satluj and Beas rivers is rising as over 64,000 cusecs water was discharged from the Pong Dam. According to an official spokesman, the water level in Pong Dam was 1387.48 feet against its maximum capacity of 1390 feet. Last year on this day, it was 1370.28 feet only. Due to continuous heavy rainfall in the upper areas, the level in Bhakhra Dam has been increasing. The water level at Bhakhra Dam today touched 1667.35 feet water mark whereas its capacity is 1680 feet. The water level at Ranjit Sagar Dam has touched 518.69 metres whereas its capacity is 520.94 feet.Due to heavy flow of water in river Beas, crops in thousands of acres in Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur and Fazilka districts, have got damaged. Water has also entered the houses in many villages and people are struck on roof tops. The Administration has provided boats in these areas. Officials are assessing the damage to the crops and property.
