Water level in reservoir of Bhakra Dam increasing

Water level in the reservoir of Bhakra Dam is increasing every day due to rains in the catchment areas of the river Satluj in the hills. Level of water has reached up to 1650 feet. Authorities of Bhakra-Beas Management Board are expecting further rise in the water level as Met office has predicted heavy rains in the catchment areas of the dam in the coming days. Everyday, the reservoir is being filled as rate of more than three feet of water. Incoming of water is much more than its release. The height of Bhakra dam is 1690 feet while the danger mark is considered at 1680 feet. Meanwhile, Chandigarh and its surrounding areas of Punjab and Haryana are experiencing rain since this morning. Moderate rain is reported from Ropar, Gurdaspur, Nangal, Hoshiarpur in Punjab and from Rohtak, Ambala and Panchkula in Haryana. The rain is considered beneficial for standing crops.
